Found: Season 2 Episode 4 – Missing While Perfect Review

Previous episode’s review here. NOTE: Spoilers in all reviews.

I don’t have a lot to say about this episode. It had a decent case of the week, the end is obviously a cliffhanger fake-out, and I’m not surprised Lacey had sense and perspective regarding Gabi’s misdeed.

Burning Questions

  1. Why on earth is Christian Evans calling Gabi? Just seeing his name on her phone screen gave me the creeps.
  2. What friend did Hugh have with him? His brother? Although since Gabi tried to find out if the person resembled him, it probably isn’t him. If not, who? I hesitate to posit his half-sister; that’s too many psychos in one family.
  3. Felice Blair? How did Sir choose the first name? Is it part of his delusion in that this is how he forces happiness on her? Gabi refused to play his name game back in the day, so he plans to make her to call herself ‘happy?’ Yikes. [UPDATE: Since I’m doing a rewatch of Season 1, I see it’s from a Jazz character by Toni Morrison. I still think the meaning of the name is the inspiration]. And speaking of the future Hugh is planning with Gabi…

Notable Moments

  1. The fandom was aflutter (one way or another) over Sir referring to Gabi as his wife. But honestly, it makes the most sense for traveling and living with her. What else is he supposed to refer to her as? His daughter? His friend? ‘Wife’ invites the least questions.
  2. Gabi’s “I wish you would.” Ma’am! I felt that. I even heard another word in there.
  3. Gabi in fuchsia — wow. The stylists were on one again. If there’s one thing Gabi Mosley’s gonna do, it’s dress to kidnap kill. She looked stunning.
  4. Detective Shaker’s back! And she’s gathering Gabi. Firmly but respectfully.
  5. And the captain gathered Trent! Haha. Got ‘im.

Other Thoughts

The emotional tone is so uneven. It’s tough watching M&A try to function in such a hostile environment. Dhan, Lacey, and Zeke all have balanced reactions; sometimes Zeke is mad, but it’s understandable. Lacey for sure feels a level of betrayal, but again, she sees the bigger picture. She’s truly a decent, empathetic person. As for the others…

Detective Trent

Trent is surface-level decent. Two weeks ago, I was worried he would get his head cracked, and now I’m disappointed when it doesn’t happen. Throughout the show, he seemed like a really good guy — thirsty, but honorable. He turned his head at times in the service of justice, pretending not to see the means because as supposedly a right-minded guy, the end justified the means here and there. Now all of a sudden, the woman he kept trying (and failing) to sleep with all last season must go to jail despite no evidence, and no victim (we all know there isn’t a chance in hell Sir will cooperate to send Gabi to prison)? Watch it, Trent — this seems a lot like ‘If I can’t have you, no one will.’

He had a tender moment with the boy from the case of the week, but it left me cold on his end. I definitely felt more for the boy, who had a moment with an adult male treating him in a decent paternal way.
Finding out Trent came close to killing his sister’s torturer makes it even more baffling how he can’t understand Gabi’s actions. No one said condone; just understand to some degree. How is he so devoid of empathy?

Deadbeat Margaret

As for Margaret, she is officially insufferable, and I’m on the verge of burning hatred for her. Margaret is one of those people who, upon finding out a tortured soul in their circle killed themselves, would say, “How selfish! Why didn’t they think about me? And how it would affect me?” I’m done with her; she needs to go. All this childish counterproductive behavior — just go sit on your bench and continue neglecting your other kids. Leave M&A since you can’t work with Gabi. At this point, I’m thinking her kid simply ran away from her sanctimonious, hypocritical, cunty BS.

I’ve seen it pointed out that Margaret and Trent, the people hardest on Gabi, have never been abducted themselves. All the others know what it’s like. But that’s not the only thing those two have in common. They both seem to subscribe to the superhuman strong black woman belief, which suggests they don’t see Gabi as a full human. It’s really astounding that they’re both incapable of even a smidgen of understanding and grace for her. And they keep letting their self-centered feelings get in the way of their jobs and helping other people.

A Review of Gabi Mosely

I feel so bad for Gabi when she refers to M&A as her family because she literally has no other family (seems both of her now-deceased parents were solo children so no aunties, cousins, etc.?). Dhan and Lacey are the only ones who are legit. Sure, there are family members one doesn’t F with, so in a way, sure — they’re definitely like a family.

As for the crew as a whole, Gabi is quietly imploding in front of all of them. Why can’t they see she’s in trouble? Beyond Sir’s obsession with her?

But like they say, drowning is silent.

Here’s what went through my head watching Season 2 Episode 5.
