Found: Season 2 Episode 16 – Missing While Witnessed

Thoughts on previous episode here.

These breaks are so annoying. I know it’s not the show’s fault, but between the episode breaks and the plot holes growing and growing, I’m less excited about the show than I was at the beginning and middle of the season. I’m still not going anywhere until the network cuts off my supply, but my disappointment in the way things are being handled is increasing.

Ah well, on to Episode 16!

Hugh vs Heather

I have to say, Heather is enjoyably spicy.

“You have to let her go!” she yells at Hugh in a way that sounds personal. She seems pretty emotionally involved for an attorney.

And then: “You trust me…don’t you,” she says to him in an oddly…even way. Hmmm… It seems a lot of us viewers are right that she knows him on some other level. I still think she could be his sister.

Heather vs. Gabi

Gabi was so offended by Heather saying “you’re an ambitious woman like me.” But yes, Gabi, you guys are both ambitious women, like she said. Sure, there is definitely a world of difference between you socially, but you both are spicy strong!

Heather vs. Trent

Heather came in hot once again confronting Trent on his lack of communication. She even left a shoulder out to remind him of the goods while calling him out on his hypocrisy. She also pleaded with Trent to see the value in Hugh, which is super sus; she is way too invested in Hugh’s fate. “He’s an asset… he can help the DCPD,” she said. Definitely sounds like someone pleading on behalf of a family member or other loved one.

I wrote down, “Haha, she said something I just said last post,” but I have no idea what I was referring to — these notes are two weeks old.

Anyway, while I like the fire Heather brings, she’s deluded. She thinks Trent should treat her like he treats Gabi? Ma’am, he just met you; he has known Gabi a long time. And yes, he might still partially be in love with her. What now?

Trent covered up his disinterest in continuing things with her pretty well, pointing out that Gabi protects the innocent, while Heather wanted to protect a monster. We won’t talk about how he said F all those innocents when he was gunning for Gabi to be jailed.

Anyway, Trent, this one seems boiler bunny nuts; I wouldn’t threaten her/piss her off.

Trent vs. Jamie

“How much time…for abducting a child?” Jamie asks Detective Trent with concern, implying he’s pretty protective of his kidnapper. But on second watch, it occurred to me Jamie could be involved in kidnapping a different child, perhaps? Considering his concern about being considered an accomplice?

“You’re the victim, Jamie,” Trent reminded him. Jamie had an odd reaction to that.

Intern Jamie

Jamie is useful sometimes, but he’s so weird and entitled. “Real moms don’t need breaks!” Excuse you? And he looked like a serial killer in that cap while on the case, sorry not sorry.

He flies off the handle like his mom, and in the quiet, Gabi told him he can trust/talk to her. I don’t know why Gabi lied to him like that; she is not trustworthy at all. She will blab quickly to Maggie. Trent yaps to Gabi, Gabi yaps to Margaret–that’s just the way they work.

And Gabi is obsessed with helping Margaret be okay, so she’ll sacrifice nearly anything — including the delicate confidence of a victim.

Messy Margaret

Margaret is self-absorbed as usual, always bringing things back to herself, always taking and taking from Gabi. What a leech! And I can’t believe she doesn’t feel bad about keeping the discovery of Jamie from his sisters and dad. There should be more emotional fallout from that. Or is she really that self-absorbed?

It was good to see she’s been nutty and entitled for a while, based on the flashbacks. She is definitely a consistent character.

“Jamie, give me a sec,” she says to Jamie in present day as if swatting away an annoying fly. Haha, she said something similar long ago when he was a kid on the day of his kidnapping! She loves him, but he bugs her tremendously.

Later, after the news about Hugh hit the media, there she went with empty platitudes to Gabi and Lacey talking about them not facing anything alone. Nobody believes your promises of support, Maggie!

The Rest of M&A

Dhan’s ready to end Hugh, and he’s the only voice of reason regarding Jaimie. Literally the only one with sense about the situation. Why?

As for Zeke, I found myself thinking, poor Zeke. Lacey was being weird as hell in the aftermath of their kiss. Super immature. Uncharacteristically.

I know there’s a lot of arrested development in this crew, but dang.

Jailbird Sir

It was fun to watch Hugh Evans work the guard. It makes sense he would be able to play various people around him, and it’s a good way to spread things out a bit. Seeing him ‘seduce’ other people works to develop the world and his character more. Love this angle.

As for his conversation with Trent, once again, he mentions the jail gossip. And once again, he gets belittled by Trent, who is angry this time (gleeful previously, especially when he told Hugh that Gabi wasn’t coming to see him. He was wrong, however.).

Trent’s “No one needs you!” plus hanging up on him hard seemed to land. That stung, eh, Hugh?

The Case of the Week

The case of the week was solid; nice twists. I thought it was weird the older woman didn’t call 911, but didn’t jump to her being involved. Especially since this isn’t the first time someone went to M&A first. A lunatic mom did that in one of my favorite episodes (Missing While Gabi Mosely).

Overall, another ‘happy’ ending. Therefore, I feel like we’re due for a death. I wonder if the next episode (or the one after) will not have a happy ending/they don’t reach the victim in time?

Other Thoughts

What happened to Gabi’s therapy sessions with *barf* Ethan? Things shouldn’t just be dropped then picked up whenever the show feels like it.

There were 2 – 3 people in the flashback that pinged as potential kidnapper. The woman Margaret attacked, the woman in the red sweater (“Show’s over” Kerry — although helping her with flyers would be pretty psycho) and the coffee woman (doubt it’s this one).

You’re welcome. More to come — said the note left on the victim inexplicably left in Gabi’s basement. Fun mystery, but the audience needs to be let in on something or other. This show needs more dramatic irony where the audience knows something the characters don’t. It’s trying to be too clever, and storytelling is sacrificed for tricks.

The characters need more development; Dhan is a one-dimensional enforcer at this point. Gabi — the lead — is still one-dimensional. The past doesn’t cover the present.

There are way too many holes in way too many ways. Please tighten up! I am rooting for this show.

Done yapping now, and just over an hour away from being able to watch the new episode tonight. Can’t wait to see if my mind gets changed about anything!
